Whitsundays Facts

Formed over 100 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity, the Whitsunday Islands began as mountainous terrain connected to the coast off the mainland. Approximately 30,00 to 50,000 years ago after the last ice age, the sea rose to partially cover this mountainous terrain and produced the network of spectacular islands we enjoy today. The region is also a Humpback Whale migration destination and these majestic creatures can be seen passing through these waters from July to September.
