Home to 74 islands, it's no surprise that the Whitsundays beaches are considered some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. Each island enjoys its own beaches that are attractive for their beauty, seclusion, ability to snorkel straight off the shore and much more. However, the two most popular Whitsunday beaches are Airlie Beach and Whitehaven Beach.
Located on the Whitsunday Coast, Airlie Beach is renowned as the gateway to the Whitsundays and is a vibrant seaside holiday town that offers plenty of nightlife, accommodation, access to a number of tours including the Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach as well as of course the towns own beautiful beaches. Airlie Beach is located on The Esplanade overlooking Pioneer Bay and Hayman Island and offers the ideal spot to work on your tan, enjoy some fish and chips or relax in the shade of a palm tree. Recently opened Boathaven Beach is another lovely spot located at the Port of Airlie and offers a man-made beach engineered to remain sandy in all tides with a stinger net for swimming safely.
Whitehaven Beach is a must see on any trip to the Whitsundays for its crystal clear waters and soft white sand stretching for 7km on Whitsunday Island. This award winning beach is one of Australia's most photographed beaches and has been named Queensland's Most Beautiful Beach, Queensland's Friendliest Beach and the World's Top Eco Friendly Beach and as soon as you arrive it's easy to see why. The most spectacular of all the Whitsunday beaches, Whitehaven Beach is also home to Hill Inlet, a breathtaking cove where tidal shifts create an amazing colour fusion of sand and water. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the warm, welcoming and calm waters Whitehaven Beach is one of the most famous attractions in the Whitsunday Islands.
