Resort was awesome, even more impressive than the photos
We have stayed at several Outrigger properties around the world and Outrigger Koh Samui didn't disappoint. Our Club Lamai Suite room was enormous and really comfortable for 2 adults and our 9 year old. A large sofa in the semi-private lounge converts to a comfortable futon style bed for our child. The main bed was a massive King. Décor was beautiful, the AC was nice and cold and the bathroom, compact but well designed with a great shower. Breakfast was good each day with a selection of western and Thai hot dishes, plenty of cereals, breads, fruit, yoghurt, juices and tea and coffee. The 4x ocean side swimming pools were fantastic. Water temp was perfect each day - not hot like a bath, but warm enough to be very comfortable. My son loved the water slide pool. The beach front aspect was awesome and very relaxing with the sway of the palm trees although the beach is very shallow out the front of the resort and not recommended for swimming. The activities room was fun on the occasional rainy afternoon, with a pool table, table tennis and air hockey plus a range of board games. My 9 year old didn't use Kids Club, but from what we saw this was targeted primarily at pre-school aged kids and look good for those littlies. The main restaurant was a little strange. Compared to the rest of the resort, we found the Edgewater restaurant service to be very poor - completely apathetic and clueless. Which was strange because it was often the same staff rotating in from other resort areas where they were excellent. The restaurant food was fine, but is really expensive (as expected) compared to local restaurants, but the staff just seemed uninterested in the restaurant which certainly reduced the number of times we might have just been lazy and dined there. We LOVED the Club 47 access for free drinks, afternoon tea and cocktails. Definitely a highlight. The resort itself is located on the outskirts of Lamai and at the far end of the beach. It was a 10 - 15 minute walk into the main town area and lots of restaurants, shops and the markets. Although there were several excellent restaurants (LimLong, Imchai, Renu Sea Grill and Beer's House) that were much closer and had great food and excellent value. There is also a 7/11 only 50 metres from the front of the resort for some cold beers, drinks, snacks, ice-creams etc and it also has an ATM.
