Cairns is surrounded by natural beauty, from the sparkling Coral Sea to the lush rainforested mountains. This abundance of beauty is complemented by the colourful local community, a rich cultural heritage and multi-cultural visitors from around the globe. It’s this richness of colour and culture that the Cairns Festival has been celebrating every year in August for over 50 years.
The festival program features regular favourites including Carnival on Collins, the Grand Parade, Sunday on the Esplanade and of course, the famous fireworks display. There will also be projects extended into the suburbs with artists and light projections partnered with James Cook University. The recently opened Munro Martin Parklands will also be featured as well as family friendly performances and the touching Soweto Gospel Choir.
Thanks to the generosity of community members and sponsors, the Cairns Regional Council is pleased offer most of the Cairns Festival events free of charge, in keeping with the family friendly theme.
