The Aitutaki Day Tour is an excellent way to explore this picturesque and charming little island, often referred to as the jewel in the crown of the Cook Islands. Beginning at approximately 7am you will be transferred to the airport for the short 45 minute flight to Aitutaki. The view on arrival is simply breathtaking and your vantage point from the air provides a stunning outlook across the smaller offshore islets, also known as motus, that hug the protective coral reefs and pristine white beaches that border each island.
Upon arriving, you'll be taken on a one hour island guided tour of Aitutaki Island, taking you through the main township of Arutanga and through to the marketplace and inland villages where you will be able to witness traditional culture firsthand. Then hop aboard the 21 metre vaka Titi-ai-tona, or traditional catamaran, and enjoy a slow cruise across the crystal clear lagoon and on to the top reef.
Along the way you will be treated to a visual delight of the offshore islets and sandbars permanently raised above the hide tide mark. This is definitely a photo opportunity not to be missed. Once you reach the top reef you can bask in the crystal waters, snorkel among schools of tropical fish and hand feed them.
It's then back onto the boat where lunch is served as you make your way to One Foot Island - remember to bring your passport for an `Arrival` stamp from the One Foot Island Post Office. It is a great souvenir to show family and friends. Here you will be spoilt for choice with some free time. Wrap up your afternoon by swimming in the warm crystal blue waters, exploring the lush surrounds of the island or lazing on the soft white sand. Tearing yourself away to head back to the main land for the flight back to Rarotonga, won't be a mean feat.
