My family and I will never forget this trip!! The place was beautiful and the staff were just amazing and made it such enjoyable place to stay. The rooms were great and very clean and spacious. Beds were comfy and spare pillows and blankets just in case. Nothing beats the ocean in all its beauty, but, take reef shoes as it's all coral and no sand. We will back again for a visit.
The facilities need a new build with high ceilings and character. The food is average and needs urgent attention. The staff are great.
Had a wonderful stay, could not fault it - stunning property
We celebrated a wedding anniversary here - just a handful of nights - which felt about right to enjoy what the island had to offer. It's stunningly beautiful, especially in the morning and at sunset. We hiked the island and explored the beaches, only rarely encountering other people (which was surreal). The coral snorkelling was impressive (more vibrant in parts than I expected) and immediately accessible. We even saw a huge turtle - just the two of us, snorkelling around by ourselves (again... surreal)
The hotel is an impressive building - but somewhat feels like it's run by a very well-meaning crew of travellers and backpackers themselves passing through. This meant the service has a... friendly authenticity perhaps... rather than being a superb well-run machine. For the price point, and the impending establishment of the island that was totally fine.
Would certainly recommend!
What a devine part of the World! A little slice of heaven! Totally relaxing, sun, swim, snorkel, eat, rest, sleep, repeat! The ferry transfer over from Cairns is picturesque! The resort has a magnificent pool, rooms were serviced daily and sparkling clean. Zephyr's restaurant was delish, The views,
ambience and sunsets were to die for!
We have absolutely loved our stay on Fitzroy Island! With 2 under 2 we thought it might be a mission but we both managed to get snorkelling in and find plenty of stuff for the kids to do! Would highly recommend this to everyone!
Great place to snorkel. Saw turtles, beautiful colorful fish and beautiful coral.
We enjoyed our stay but the room and some of the common areas need work. We noticed that renovations were happening and it may be that management has it in hand. The island is the star. The reef starts a few metres from the beach and the range of corals and fish is wonderful. We also enjoyed the walks. I think the island works best for active people. We are not young but we enjoy walking and snorkelling. We found the resort staff to be excellent - friendly, efficient and welcoming. The restaurant food and beverage offerings were really good and despite having a captive market - prices were not over the top. We plan to visit again - perhaps next winter.
No wifi in rooms (was not advised it was only common areas in booking process).
Pool under renovations and closed (was not advised in booking process).
Won't return as it's ticked off the bucket list now. 1 day/night would be plenty.
No need to catch a boat to see a huge array of tropical fish snorkelling just off the beach at Fitzroy. The accom here is fabulous. Very modern well equipped rooms.
Lovely restaurant and casual eating at Foxy's Bar. Prices very reasonable everywhere.
Our first trip to Fitzroy and hopefully won't be our last!
We were blown away with the wonderful tropical island atmosphere of the Island and the staff were mostly super friendly and helpful.
The facilities are about perfect for the size of the Island and to keep it a more intimate experience.
We will definitely upgrade to a beach facing suite next visit as the room we had felt a bit dark and gloomy.
Other than that we loved our short stay (4 nights) and look forward to going back.
Had great accommodation, great customer service the only fault I had was with the breakfast in restaurant. Expected a lot better than we received. Will go back because it’s absolutely the most relaxing holiday you can have.
The deal we had was very good value. The resort is nice and the food great. The studio rooms do lack natural light and a place to dry wet towels, swimmers, wet suits etc. They were very comfortable however.
we had an amazing time. the staff were all super friendly and helpful, and always smiling no matter what. only downside was no wifi in the rooms, so that made dealing with work emergencies hard.
We had a problem arriving the day after a cyclone had passed. As the staff had only returned to the island the same day as us there were problems throughout with debris & paths closed & the lifts out. Taking all this into account the resort performed really well in the circumstances. The Dining standard was excellent as were the staff.
The Island was amazing, loved the clear water. The weather was great so the water was clean and clear.
The island had a nice walking track and the 2 areas you could choose to eat were great, you also could bring your own snacks over with you.
The room we received was OK, it was a hotel room so no balcony and we were on the mountain side so no view of the ocean or any sound of the waves. Next time I will be asking for a different room so I can enjoy the full effect of the sea. Overall there was nothing wrong with the room, just the position. Room was older but it was clean and well presented. The facility was clean and everyone there was friendly and very helpful.
My stay was extremely enjoyable and relaxing which was what I was after.
If you're looking for a getaway with peace and quiet, quality accommodation, outstanding food and amazing staff then look no further...
When we arrived we we're surprised that the resort was 'tired' in some respects, the pool needs attention and parts of the the grounds can come across as 'messy' but once you settle in and experience the beauty of the island and the amazing service from the staff, all else that concerned us faded away.
The stand out winner for this resort is the staff, they are truly wonderful! Even though many of them are transient workers, they certainly know how to take care of guests. We were so impressed by the restaurant staff, pool bar staff and reservation team.
And the food in Zephyr's.....simply WOW. The chefs are experts in delivery delicious food for both breakfast and dinner, we could not fault any of the menu items we ordered, all worthy of a high end fine dining experience. Foxy's offers standard cafe style food and is also good.
As far as the island goes, this is a switch off and recharge resort island. Indulge in the amazingly beautiful (but challenging) Summit Walk through the national park. Nudey Beach is stunning and Secret Garden is a nice easy walk amongst a backdrop of rainforest. Snorkling is the activity of the day and you will not be disappointed, rays, turtles, tropical fish and reef sharks are on the daily viewing. Kayak and SUP's are also available.
Overall Fitzroy Island is worth the money, and then some.....we loved every minute!
Just come back from 3 nights at Fitzroy with my son....and ready to go again. Awesome location, friendly staff. Nature at its best which is why we went. Had the best snorkeling experience ever. Some negatives in my view was the loud music at Foxys which was such a shame in such a serene beautiful location. Our resort suite was great but a bit noisy due to neighbouring guests, and the food at the restaurant was quite over priced. However, beauty as only nature can provide and good value overall...will definitely go back. No doubt.
Just returned from my second visit to the resort in 3 years. Did not disappoint. Spectacular weather for the full week I was there, incredible beaches and the most relaxing, beautiful pool imaginable. I went for a de-stress and achieved that almost on the first day. Staff were friendly (if a little disengaged at times) and the facilities were great. Waking up and going down to the jetty each morning to be greeted by a warm breeze and the sun on my face was perfect. Brought my own food from Cairns as the food options on the island are really limited to either very expensive at the restaurant or basic at the bar. Could really work on better options. Otherwise, can't really complain as I had a great time just relaxing and doing not much at all. No hesitation in recommending this place to anyone thinking about it. Well worth it. I'll be back...
Gorgeous island. Stunning snorkelling right from the beach. Swam with turtles.
Limited supply of food from the shop.
Cafe and restaurant food was great.
Massage was awesome.
Avoid the dive centre shop - staff are very rude and do not offer refunds or reschedules. Hire equipment from the beach hire instead.
The location is amazing. The only bad thing about the holiday was the food: no choice and the only two restaurant made very bad quality food.
We went to the resort on fitzroy island with my girlfriend, all was perfect, I really recommend this resort.
Had a great holiday for a great price
Really beautiful location and the staff were fantastic. The only issue with the resort is the dining. The food is below average and the prices are over priced for what you get. In saying that, the breakfasts were good.
Absolutely loved my short stay at Fitzroy Island resort. There’s lots to do during the day and plenty of time and space to relax during the evening. My sister and I enjoyed our mini vacation and plan to come back soon !
Fitzroy Island is one of the most beautiful places I have been. We stayed 2 nights but I wished we had stayed an extra night as we didn't have time to do all that we wanted. We spent a lot of time snorkeling and went for an intro dive which was amazing but didn't get to do any hiking. We saw turtles, black tip reef sharks, a stingray and thousands of fish while snorkeling. We stayed in a beach cabin which was adequate for a family of 4 though the bathroom was quite small. The food was pretty good though I don't think the buffet dinner at Zephyr was worth what we paid. Foxy's was great for casual dining. If you love snorkeling, walking through beautiful vegetation and turquoise water you will love Fitzroy island. Highly recommend it.
This is my second time coming to Fitzroy Island and it definitely doesn't disappoint. Very relaxing and a few things to do in addition to the beach and the pool. Only thing I would recommend would be to bring as much of your own food as possible (in room kitchen available) as the food (excluding breakfast which is quite nice) is not the greatest. I will definitely visit Fitzroy Island again!
Two negatives:
1. Mattress in studio apartment was too soft, lumpy and sloping to one side.
2.Meals at Foxy’s we’re below par.
The island is absolutely beautiful. Best holiday ever.
food is great, price is acceptable.
However the rooms are quite damp.
The sea is not clear, hard to see fish and corals. There is no signal at all in my room. I can only surf internet near the main lobby. Other place is barely no signal. And not recommended to come between Nov to May. jellyfish everywhere in the sea water.
Started a little scetchy with our room smelling very musty but a quick phone call to reception and they organised an Ozone machine to fix it. This worked a little but the smell returned again after a few hrs. So we asked for a another room and reception was quick to organise this for us. I suspect the rear rooms get little sunlight and most visitors never open windows keep curtains shut and aircondition running 24/7 which would not help. Our replacement room smelt fine and the reception team were very helpful and friendly. Over all it was a great stay. Those who expect 5 star accommodation cheap meals and not an insect in sight should avoid island resorts that most morals can afford.
Fitzroy Island was a great getaway. The island is only 45 min out from Cairns but the water is clear and full of fish and beautiful coral .
We only had the studio which is of average size but had fridge and a lovely bathroom. A room with a deck would be really nice but you will pay a lot more for those rooms.
The breakfast was nice but it remained the same for the 4 days we were there! Would have been nice to mix it up a little bit! The food at main alacart restaurant was a bit pricy but foxys bar had a more affordable choice. The salads where beaut! There are walks up to the summit and light House if you are a good walker!
Pity we couldn't get around to little Fitzroy Island - there should be a boat trip out there !
Overall what a great place to relax - highly recommended!
Fitzroy Island is the perfect place to chill out and relax for a few days. Loved being able to snorkel right off the beach and see coral, fish and turtles. Great for families, couples or a solo trip.
While it is a short 45 launch trip from Cairns, Fitzroy Island is like being in another world - away from the hustle and bustle. It offers pretty good services and opportunities, although the food and dining options are limited if you are staying for a while. The best sunsets we have enjoyed for years - taken with an appropriate cocktail each evening.
Enjoyed the island especially the snorkelling.
Our room was clean and tidy. Some maintenance required on resort but work is occurring. More resort activities and night entertainment would have been good. The food was nice....pub grub at Foxys and the restaurant food that we had at Zephers was great.
Sitting having a romantic dinner was the right time in the perfect place to ask my love to marry me.
Beautiful island location with so much to do, great snorkelling around the island plus only 45minutes to the outer reef . Thumbs up from us , loved every minute
This is the seventh Whitsundays island we have stayed at but the least known about.
All have been great and this little gem is right up there with the better ones.
If you are active there are challenging bush walks. If you are not it is easy to chill out by the water (be it sea or pool) and unwind. Then there is the terrific snorkelling off the beach ( close by, safe and lovely coral and sea life).
Zephry's is the place to dine (mains in mid $30), wine list limited but again price rise good value in the $30 range). Staff are fantastic. Or you can go to Foxy's for a pub style meal in the $20 range.
You do pay for everything on the island, stinger suits, snorkels, water sports etc which can add up over a week if not bringing your own,
I would strongly recommend you book a one bedroom apartment with lounge and kitchen. They face the sea so the breeze is nice. The studio rooms do not have direct sunlight and are very musty as a result. And the bed is close to the wooden walkway do can get noisy. The price fitter enice of between $50 (partial sea view) or $75 a night per room (full sea view) is very reasonable for the extra you get.
All the resort staff are friendly and helpful so it is easy to relax.
Well worth considering.
Fitzroy Island has a good array of activities. We loved the early morning and late afternoon walks, and the snorkelling was fun - lots of tropical fish and baby reef sharks to see. The Ocean suite was very luxurious.
Great idea and has potential to be amazing. Unfortunately did not feel as a guests we were catered for as well as day tourists (hire times and price and lack of available drinkable water). Instructions on how to find the boat on the Pier could be clearer.
The only thing we did't like was the bed.
It was comfortable but it felt like it rolled down out to the side
Lovely resort, staff friendly and food was great at Foxys bar. Breakfast buffet good value with many choices. Fastcat ride to the resort was smooth and they took care of their passengers well. Summary " A little piece of paradise". GM Glen MacDonald runs a fantastic resort nothing was too much trouble. We will definately return.
Fitzroy Island, was definately a surprise package! Beautiful waters and scenery around the island. A perfect getaway, snorkeling off the island was impressive, saw turtles, reef sharks, and colourful coral. Also paddle boarded. Everything was a great experience. The pool bar was great, but just wish it was open longer than 4pm. The evenings were very peaceful.
Will definately return.
Great view and room very comfortable.
Lots of amenaties to be self sufficient.
Desperately needed a break from a miserable Melbourne winter and wanted something within easy travelling distance. Fitzroy Island fit the bill perfectly. An easy 45 minute ferry transfer from Cairns and my wife and I were transported to a tropical oasis with palm trees swaying and inviting, warm water washing the coral beaches. The weather was brilliant, the resort/room/facilities/staff were first rate and it was easy to fall into a relaxed mode very quickly. Lying by the pool, I had time to read a full book - start to finish - for the first time this year! The views from the Summit peak were amazing and we even managed to spot a snake. Being able to snorkel over coral and see bountiful, colourful fish right off the beach was an added bonus. Four days I will not forget quickly. Had a great time and would recommend the island and the resort to anyone, whether you are in desperate need of a break or not. Fantastic value - hope to do it again sometime soon.
Fitzroy Island was the perfect getaway for us, we were able to do as much or as little as we wanted, we were a little disappointed with the snorkelling only because of water clarity and the damage that has occurred to the coral, meals were nothing to write home about and were a little over priced but generally not too bad, overall our stay was very enjoyable and yes we would highly recommend Fitzroy Island to anyone.
We spent 6 days on island, weather was fantastic ,staff was great .We enjoyed very much
some small maintenance issues to work on but over all had a great stay. A pizza oven would be good @foxy"s bar .Staff were great !
My wife and I had a relaxing stay at Fitzroy Isl. We found it a little busy with the day trippers but they never got in the way of the resort. We were a little disappointed with the set up and location of the Souvenir combined general store. We also found it a fair distance to walk from the beach on the resort side and Foxy's to grab a cold drink etc. Most of the staff were friendly, greeted you with a smile. Our bathroom area was dark, lacking much light and the shower leaked water under the door to the floor area excessively, hence the two stars. Would we go back again, yes but not in a hurry.
We enjoyed a relaxing stay and were well looked after. The tours offered were good, though someone giving information about the reef on the glass bottom boat would be interesting. Having everything in walking distance but not crowded was great.
Great time - recommend it to anyone
Was a beautiful island. Found the food to be of poor quality eating at both foxys and then at the resteraunt. The resteraunt was good flavour however the lamb was cold when it arrived.
The rooms were nice but not all that clean and needed maintenance with the levers on doors, windows all broken off. The fan also clicked as it went around when on which was pretty annoying. Further to this although a very peaceful spot there was a him coming through the walls from either fans or air conditioning unity in other rooms.
We had a great snorkel as we left and is a beautiful spot but certainly needs some more attention to detail in everything that is done at the resort.
Travelling solo, I found it ideal for a short "winter" break (upto 4 days) just 45 minutes by fast ferry from Cairns. Foxy's Bar is open for lunch and dinner and is a cheaper alternative to Zephyr's Restaurant (breakfast and dinner), and these are the only eating options on the island. Challenging hike/walk to the lighthouse and summit with excellent views. Good for a range of water activities.
The room was lovely, service was great and staff were brilliant. We were very disappointed with the meals except breakfast which was excellent, very limited choice of food, maybe some smorgasbord type evening meals might be nice. Not a lot of activities for children better suited to couples or individuals.
Everything was amazing,
There are plenty of things to do on the Island, the water activities were great saw a turtle everyday!
Pool was also amazing with swim up bar, cocktails were so yum!
Food could have a few more healthier options though..
But room was great, we stayed in the ocean suite and had a great view :)
So relaxing and chilled.
Almost everything went perfectly! All the places we stayed knew in advance we were coming and rolled out the red carpet.
There was however, only one minor issue. We didn't get our booking code for the plane tickets in our email (this was rectified by calling the airport). Not a major problem, but it did make it a tad difficult to customize our flight.
very friendly staff and perfect environment
This is a fabulous holiday in our one bedroom unit. Outfitted with full kitchen, dining /living room and separate bedroom, plus balcony. This unit suited us exactly. The location was unbelievable and snorkeling with turtles the highlight, right outside our unit. The only downside was that the occupants of the upstairs unit were very noisy and all footfalls could be heard amplified through the ceiling. But a call to reception and all was quiet, service was outstanding by all staff, especially the room attendants. Any requests were no bother. Overall this was one of our best holidays.
Enjoyed the whole time. Location wonderful. National park great even the summit lighthouse walk was amazing. Staff courteous an friendly.
xxx
Love the whole stay
Staff were all great and could not help enough
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fitzroy Is. The island is pristine and stunningly beautiful. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable with gorgeous water views.
Staff were friendly and very helpful.
My only suggestion is perhaps light meals could be purchased from the pool bar.
Overall a wonderful location I would recommend to others
Staff excellent, restaurant also, bar/cafe expensive.
Rooms excellent except for footstep noise from above, a real negative, ...answer..get third floor or beach cabin..
Perhaps families with toddlers should all be put in one end taking all 3 floors, so other quiet relaxers can have peace, especially to sleep.
Very reasonably priced. Great snorkelling and a beautiful spot,
food very expensive
Have stayed at many island resorts over the years and Fitzroy Island Resort is up there with the best of them..... excellent facilities (albeit, no catamarans to use), excellent standard throughout.
Don't tell everyone though, don't spoil it.
Fabulous resort, good mix of relaxation, watersports and bushwalking.
It was an amazing stay !! Staff were brilliant and were very accommodating to our extra needs for our honeymoon
great holiday would recommend to everyone
We stayed 4 nights in an Ocean Suite. The room was spacious and well appointed, balcony a great spot to have drinks and nibbles as the sun set.
Foxy's was good for lunch and Zephyrs for dinner. Breakfast at Zephyrs (continental or full buffet) was nice, but pricey. You can bring food to the island and make breakfast if you want to save a bit.
Staff were a stand-out, especially Beck and John.
We are already planning our next stay!
Excellent customer service in a perfect location!
Beautiful amazing place
Kids loved it. Lots to do with bushwalks, canoes, ocean trampoline, snorkelling off the beach and mocktails at the pool bar. Even have an in-house cinema and games room. Food was good - huge portions. Recommend 1/2 board to get your breakfast and dinner included.
Rooms could do some maintenance - very dusty in parts but good facilities with washer/dryer and kitchenette.
