Hamilton Island Airport

Hamilton Island Airport is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands and although being a much smaller airport than those found in larger cities, it services a number of airlines and direct flights from major cities. Flights arrive daily from Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne operated by Qantaslink, Jetstar and Virgin Australia. The airport is also the launch point for private charters, seaplanes, light planes and locally operated helicopter tours and scenic flights to Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef.

Located just south of the Hamilton Island marina and only five minutes from the majority of the resorts on the island, the airport is comfortable and modern and offers all the facilities you'd expect including a spacious departure terminal with plenty of seating, a bar as well as a shop where you can purchase snacks as well as magazines and basic toiletries. There is also a parent's room, disability access and separate bathroom facilities. Bus drop offs and passenger pickups are available directly in front of the airport and walking distances within the terminal are minimal.

For all passengers departing on Hamilton Island flights, the check-in desks for all airlines are located directly inside the terminal. Queues are longer during peak periods therefore passengers should be careful to ensure they join the correct check-in line. The airport is also the island's only facility with the capacity to cater for commercial aircraft. The airport features a single runway and primary parking apron suited to B737/A320 aircraft, with additional space for corporate jets.

The Hamilton Island Airport is just a short stroll from the picturesque Hamilton Island marina, home to a number of boutique shops, cafes, convenience stores, art galleries, fish and chip shops, bakeries and restaurants. A lovely spot by the water offering views out to the surrounding Whitsunday Islands, the marina is a great place to spot yachts and luxury vessels and relax before or after your flight.
