Gold Coast Surfing

The Gold Coast has produced some of the world's best surfers and it's not hard to see why. The surf here is legendary, and it's not called Surfers Paradise for nothing. The Gold Coast offers some of the best point breaks in the world as well as plenty of beach breaks just for fun and with so many locations to choose from, you'll never be short of some waves to catch. Conditions are welcoming for all skill levels and for those less experienced surfers, there are a range of surf schools located around the coast who can give you some pointers or lessons.

Gold Coast - Tourism & Events Queensland

The Gold Coast is home to more than 35km of heavenly surf beaches to choose from, meaning that almost not a day goes by where there isn't surf pumping at one of the beaches along the Gold Coast. If you're searching for a spot to drop in, just follow the locals as they cruise along the coast. However, is you enjoy surfing the web as much as you do the waves, there are a number of Gold Coast surf cams that are available to view online allowing you a preview of where the best breaks are before you set out.

Although the Gold Coast enjoys great surfing year round, the best time is from January to April. The water is a comfortable 23 degrees Celsius and the swell is at its peak. However the fantastic Gold Coast surf isn't limited to just surfers, boogie boarders and kite surfers can also regularly found carving up the waves. Even if you don't have a lot of equipment or experience, you can still give surfing a go with some fun lessons from one of the many local surf schools.

Most beach breaks are patrolled by surf lifesaving volunteers so keep an eye out. For your own safety, boarders should stay between the red and yellow and blue flags and away from swimmers. If you would prefer to take a break and just enjoy the beach with a swim, stay between the red and yellow flags where the surf lifesavers patrol. However, only beaches are patrolled and swimming in the mouth of rivers or in canals is unsafe. As long as you heed any warning signs or instructions from life guards, your surfing experience on the Gold Coast will be on the best in the world.
