Industry Awards To Be Held on Hamilton Island

Promising to be an unforgettable experience for all involved, the tourism industry's night of nights will be held in the Whitsundays on Hamilton Island. The gala event is scheduled to be held on Saturday 30 September and will see tourism operators from all over the region converge on Hamilton Island in a celebration of excellence.

Promising to be a particularly special night following the recovery of the region in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Debbie, which battered the region in March, the Whitsunday Tourism Awards will be supported by Tigerair Australia as the official airline sponsor along with headline sponsor Reef Gateway Hotel and transfer provider Cruise Whitsundays.

The awards will celebrate the excellence of Hamilton Island accommodation providers as well as hotel, transfer and tour providers from all over the region. Providing the entertainment on the night will be popular Irish-Australian electro-house three piece The Potbelleez. The dance music group is known for their hits Don't Hold Back and Are You With Me? and will set the tone for an upbeat night.

The awards are designed to acknowledge the contribution of the region's tourism operators and service providers, continuing to encourage excellence with the industry.

Tourism Whitsundays CEO Craig Turner said it's rewarding to see how much support the awards have received.

"This year, more than ever, I think it is really important that we recognise the outstanding efforts of our tourism operators," Mr Turner said.

"We are a resilient lot and have met the challenges presented to us this year head on.

"It will be nice to put all that behind us, even for a short while, and celebrate our successes."

All tourism operators in the Whitsundays region are eligible for the awards, with submissions being taken on the Tourism Whitsundays website. Tourism operators have until August 10 to make their submissions online, with a total of 31 award categories up for grabs.
