Olympians Raise Funds on Hamilton Island

From Friday 6 May to Monday 9 May, two Olympic stars, Eloise Wellings and Libby Trickett, visited Hamilton Island for the annual Mother's Day Classis and Active Women's weekend. Joining a raft of presenters on the popular Queensland island, Trickett and Wellings were part of an exciting weekend that aimed to encourage women of all ages to lead an active lifestyle while raising much-needed funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Eloise Wellings was the first Australian athlete to be selected for the 2016 Rio Olympics while Trickett is known for her long history on the swimming world stage. The two Olympians joined the program over the Mother's Day Weekend which featured active options like parkrun and the Dent Dash, which were also open for competition.

Other Hamilton Island activities included yoga sessions, star gazing walks, paddle boarding, a strength training for women session, open air movies, a run technique clinic, activities for children, a self-belief and visualisation workshop, a nutrition presentation and the 'Chatter that Matters' open forum pre-dinner chat. The forum allowed attendees to ask presenters questions about all aspects of maintaining an active lifestyle as a woman or a mother.

Even partners were included in the event, with a session covering the characteristics of supportive partners to encourage active women in their relationships. Catering for all, the program was designed with flexibility in mind and participants were able to pick and choose their sessions, being involved as much or as little as they liked. Most sessions were free and were open to not only guests of Hamilton Island but also day visitors and even residents and staff of Hamilton Island.

The Mother's Day Classic was the centrepiece of the weekend and is managed by the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with registration fee proceeds going directly to foundation-supported projects. Created in 1988, the Mother's Day Classic is now held in more than 100 locations across Austraia and has since raised more than $27 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
