Just a short stroll from famous Waikiki Beach and shaded by the Diamond Head State Monument, the Waikiki Aquarium is located in Honolulu on the shores of Kapi'olani Park. The Waikiki Aquarium is the Pacific Island Region's Coastal Ecosystem Learning Centre for the Coastal America Partnership and features a number of research, programs and exhibits that focus on the unique and precious aquatic life of Hawaii and the Pacific. The aquarium is home to more than 3,500 marine fauna, representing over 500 species of aquatic plants and animals.
Through a diverse range of exhibits, the Waikiki Aquarium puts visitors face to face with zebra sharks and allows them to meet real-life Dory and Nemo's. Visitors can see an amazing range of marine life including an octopus that can open jars, colourful tropical fish, endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals, living corals, reef sharks, squid, sea jellies and more.
The award-winning aquarium also features an exhibit with a 28,400 litre outdoor ecosystem which replicates five different Hawaiian shore and reef environments. Another exhibit also boasts unusual aquatic life like table corals, Japanese pygmy angelfish, masked angelfish and yellow barbell goatfish.
The Waikiki Aquarium is home to some incredibly unique species, presenting an amazing opportunity to see some of Hawaii's most spectacular marine life from dry land.
