Port Douglas Brewery Officially Open

One of the most popular Port Douglas attractions just got even more popular. The Reef Marina is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade and as part of that, Hemingway's Brewery is now open. While the marina has always been a dining and drinking hub popular with visitors and locals alike, it's now set to attract even more foodies and drink-ophiles with the new brewery.

Owned by Tony Fyfe and Craig Parsell, who also own and operate a local sport fishing and charter business, Hemingway's Brewery took just 10 months to be completed and was officially opened last week by the Hon. Warren Entsch, Member for Leichhardt. Pausing briefly on the campaign trail ahead of the Federal Election, Entsch visited the brewery and was excited to see it complete.

Tony Fyfe said that he and business partner Craig Parsell had envisaged a contemporary meeting place that took advantage of its idyllic setting and embodied all the coastal charm and tropical spirit of Port Douglas. It seems the two have managed to deliver, with Hemingway's Brewery set to become part of the Port Douglas story.

Fyfe and Parsell said they wanted Hemingway's to be known far and wide for its memorable service, welcoming atmosphere and authentic craft beer. Jared Stewart is the man who can make all their dreams come true. Formerly from Moa Brewing Co in Marlborough on New Zealand's South Island, Stewart is now head brewer at Hemingway's.

Each beer at Hemingway's reflects various aspects from Port Douglas' past including the Doug's Courage IPA which commemorates the town's heart in rebuilding after 1911 tropical cyclones as well as the Pitchfork Betty's signature pale ale which is inspired by a former local publican known as Old Betty Whiting who was known for sorting out unruly patrons with an iron pitchfork.

Aside from its craft beer, Hemingway's also features a menu of tapas, gourmet pizza and BBQ-style food with the ability to cater for up to 650 people. The top floor, known as Upstairs@Hemingway's features a bar, stunning views over the marina and an event center. The ground floor of Hemingway's incorporates a number of lounge bar areas as well as an expansive garden bar.
