Taxi
Taxis are available all over Port Villa and can be identified by their number plate marked with a "T". Within Vila Town, taxis are charged depending on distance as well as the state of the road. Taxis are more affordable when travelling in a group and your driver should be able to give you an estimated fare before the journey begins. Taxis do transfer to and from the airport, however, may not be available on Sunday's, public holidays or during a major celebration.
Bus
There are busses and mini vans located on Port Vila readily available to transport tourists. Providing cheap fares and friendly service, the local busses are a great way to get around and see some of the best sights in Vanuatu. Most fares cost just AUD$1.50 and are usually cheaper than taxis. Mini vans are also available and can seat up to 10 people at a time. You can arrange for a mini van to meet you at a particular time and take them to popular spots around the city. Drivers will be happy to show you the sights and you may even pick up on some local insider knowledge.
Boat
The Vanuatu Ferry provides a weekly service between Port Vila and Santo stopping via Malekula. This service departs Vila every Monday at 9pm and costs approximately 6500VT per person. Alternatively the Big Sista Ferry services Port Vila and Luganville on a 33m passenger vessel. Departing Port Vila each Monday at 1pm, the ferry stops at Epi, Paama, and Malekula. Speedboats are available for short interisland travel; however these are expensive and weather dependent.
