The Airlie Beach Festival of Music has been nominated for Festival of the Year in the 2019 Queensland Music People's Choice Awards and has just been announced as a category finalist.
The Queensland Music People's Choice Awards is a state-wide poll that celebrates the best regional and metro venues and festivals throughout Queensland. Queensland residents and live music lovers are encouraged to cast their votes today.
Now in it's seventh year of operation, the Airlie Beach Festival of Music is quickly becoming one of Queensland's premier events. Each year's line-up features a collection of international and local artists to appeal to a broad range of music tastes and genres.
Held over 3 days, the festival is spread out over 18 live music venues across Airlie Beach. The town comes alive and the atmosphere is electric, it's no surprise the event has been nominated for such an impressive award.
Airlie Beach Festival of Music founder, Gavin Bustlin is ecstatic to be named as one of the finalists.
"Where else but Airlie Beach can you see 74 bands beside 74 Whitsunday Islands in the heart of The Great Barrier Reef?!" he asked.
"It's a party in a tropical paradise where the atmosphere is electric."
The music venues are scattered throughout the township and are easily accessible to tourists and locals.
At most other festivals you watch bands n a stage in a paddock but our main tent at the Whitsunday Sailing Club is virtually surrounded by the Coral Sea"
"Our venues are easy to get to and fully equipped, and with a line-up of big name acts and emerging talent, there is something to satisfy every musical taste," Mr Bustlin said.
Tourism Whitsundays CEO, Tash Wheeler is proud of the region's commitment to live music and is thrilled that the festival has been recognised as one of Queensland's best music festivals.
"Ecah year this event attracts a huge number of tourists visiting our beautiful region and soaking up the atmosphere that descends upon Airlie Beach over the festival weekend," Ms Wheeler said.
