Christmas Comes Early For Sydney Visitors To Whitsundays

Christmas has come early for Sydneysiders planning on heading north to the spectacular Whitsunday Islands in 2017. Celebrating new direct flights from Sydney to the Whitsundays with a mega-sale, Jetstar offered one-way airfares for a bargain $59. Launching in 2017, the airline will offer direct flights to paradise from Sydney to the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef. The introduction of the new flights to the Whitsunday Coast will not only help to drive popularity in the already popular region but will also give the local economy a multi-million dollar boost.

The gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsunday Coast Airport is located in Proserpine and will receive direct flights from Sydney three times weekly. The introduction of new services by Jetstar will begin on 4 April 2017 and joins additional weekly flights from Brisbane increasing services from 7 flights to 10 flights over the peak holiday period. Year-round flights from Melbourne will also increase with three weekly flights becoming four from March 2017.

Jetstar's new flights from Sydney to the Whitsundays will be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on a 180-seat Airbus A320. The extra flights will see Jetstar bring almost 170,000 passengers into the Whitsundays each year, offering a multi-million dollar boost for the local economy. Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said he welcomed the move and appreciated the confidence Jetstar have shown by assisting the Whitsunday region in becoming Australia's leading tourism destination.

It's not just the additional services that will help to increase visitors to the Whitsundays, it's also the bargain price of airfares that Jetstar offered that will help more visitors to afford their long lusted-after holiday to tropical Queensland. By combining Jetstar's cheap airfares with the fantastic range of affordable Whitsunday holiday packages, Sydneysiders can kick back on the soft white sand shores of Whitehaven Beach for less than a week's rent.
