The Whitsundays are known for their wonderful beachfront dining options and beautiful views of the stars, however earlier this month it was stars of a different kind that were being spotted in Airlie Beach. Causing quite a stir with the locals and visiting tourists, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were spotted heading out for dinner in Airlie Beach, shaking hands and welcoming photos with the crowd of fans they'd attracted.
Visiting Airlie Beach as part of filming for the new film Unbroken, Brad and Angelina as well as a crew of around 130 have spent time in the Whitsundays filming for the new film Jolie is directing. With shooting taking place in a number of locations around Australia, two of Hollywood's biggest stars have been spending time in the Whitsundays on location in the small town of Funnel Bay, between Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour.
While speculation has been rife as to which of the great range of Airlie Beach accommodation they may be staying in, rumour has it that the star couple and their six children spent Christmas at the luxury resort qualia on Hamilton Island. Famous for its celebrity guests, the resort has also hosted Oprah during her recent visit to Australia.
The pair have been living in Australia since September of 2013 while filming for Unbroken has continued. Spotted in a number of locations including Sydney, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie arrived by private jet at the Whitsunday Coast Airport and were spotted enjoying dinner at the local Shipwreck Bar and Grill in Airlie Beach.
It isn't the first time Brad Pitt has visited tropical north Queensland, with filming for his film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea also taking place in the Whitsundays last year. However, it is the first time the region has seen such star power in a double dose, proving that the Whitsundays are not only beautiful enough to be worthy of a starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster, but also cements its place as a family friendly destination.
