Whitsundays Wins Big at Australian Tourism Awards

The Whitsundays region has excelled at the Australian Tourism awards, taking home four awards at the prestigious event.

Recognising the industry's top operators and achievers, the Australian Tourism Awards promotes excellence in the Australian Tourism Industry. The awards were first established by the Federal Government in 1985 and are now the most recognised and celebrated awards within the Australian tourism industry.

Held in Launceston on March 1, The Whitsundays had three tourism operators in the running for awards across four different categories. Big4 Adventure Whitsundays Resort for Caravan and Holiday Park, Whitsundays Escape for Unique Accommodation and Red Cat for Adventure Tourism, and Major Tour and Transport Operators. Each operator successfully took home the prize.

A true reflection of the region's success, Tourism Whitsundays CEO Tash Wheeler is very proud of the efforts and achievement.

"For the Whitsundays to have three national finalists up for four awards is a testament to the high standard of experiences on offer in the Whitsundays and once again demonstrates how our small region continues to punch well above our weight. It's an honour for the Whitsunday tourism industry to have these businesses representing us at the Australia Tourism Awards," Ms Wheeler said.

Hundreds of accommodation and tourism operators across Australia enter their state and territory Tourism awards. The winners are then narrowed down to 200 state and territory finalists who are then eligible to reach the national title.

Mayor Andrew Wilcox is ecstatic that all four tourism operators and are being recognised for their outstanding products and services.

"I am always a proud Mayor when representing the Whitsundays as our tourism stakeholders always excel on the national stage". "These awards are recognition for the amazing resilience and enthusiasm of our tourism operators and also the industry leadership by Tourism Whitsunday CEO Tash Wheeler and board chair Al Grundy," he said.
